I think this one should be raised to the level of `bug' now.

you can (temporarily) activate extended tips (using <crl>+<f1> or the
menu), these already show a detailed explanation...
Nevertheless setting target milestone, adjusting priority
Comment 9 bettina.haberer 2003-07-16 16:14:50 UTC
Completed the Summary to "Tooltips for Statusbar would be nice".
Comment 10 osavill 2003-09-15 17:10:17 UTC
Any movement on this one. It is still a real pain in the bottom to try
and remember what all those little boxes on the bottom status bar are
for !!
Comment 11 lohmaier 2003-09-15 18:03:09 UTC
Of course it is <shift>+<F1>, not <ctrl>+<F1>, sorry.
Comment 12 osavill 2003-11-11 10:48:59 UTC
Ah yes, but this is not as convenient as hovering the mouseover a box
and getting some info on what it does :-)
Comment 13 bettina.haberer 2004-04-08 20:56:39 UTC
Sorry, no chance to get this done for Q as it does not belong to a keyfeature-area.
Comment 14 osavill 2004-11-30 21:30:45 UTC
Good grief !
Comment 15 osavill 2005-01-24 23:00:33 UTC
Does this one hold the record for oustanding issue ! :-)

EVERYTHING else has a tool tip. Surely it is about time that these should also
get tooltips !!!

I still don't know what STD, EXT, ADD, SEL or HYP mean three years after the
original post ! The user cannot know to double click these area (affordance and
all that). What is worse is that 2 of the empty ones actually have functions (to
digitally sign the document and 'Fields'), but how in blue blazes is anyone
supposed to know this.
Comment 16 jnoreiko 2005-06-03 13:59:40 UTC
Tooltips are in for all elements up to "STD, EXT, ADD" in 1.9.104.
The digital signatures and the insert fields sections could actually do with
some text in them. At the moment they just look like empty space that does nothing.
Comment 17 lohmaier 2005-06-05 21:22:09 UTC
In my version of 104, the statusbar still doesn't have regular tips, only the
extended tips work.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

This simply is a Bug, most Status bar items can not be understood without additional info. The asterisk in Status Bar for "Document has been modified" is not self explaining ...

At least for most items Enhanced Tooltips do exist.

Not only Calc affected.
All OS affected
I can't see anybody working on this issue, so back to CONFIRMED
