Description bobbv 2004-02-17 22:28:12 UTC
I recently reported (in issue 25576) that there was a copy-paste problem, which
turned out to be a different null date in the document I was pasting from. That
document was originally generated by StarOffice, which is how I assume that the
null date got set to 1/1/1904, instead of (I assume 1/1/1900). My enhancement
request is for a warning when dates are copied between documents with different
null dates or when files are imported that have different null dates than the
default date, with the option of setting the null date to the standard default
and updating all date fields appropriately.

The warning could read "The [cells you are copying|document you are importing]
has a nonstandard null date--the date from when OpenOffice begins calculating
dates--which could change the value of the dates displayed. Select OK to
[paste|open] the dates using the default null date, which may make them look
different, or [Import|Paste Special] to adjust the dates so that they look the
same, but are calculated using the default null date." Or something.

I understand the reason for the existence of the null date, but it's very
confusing behavior to just change the date as it displays without warning the user.

Hi Bettina,

IMHO this is not possible on Pasting maybe on import.

enhanced summary, set keywords and reassigned issue according to RFE process

This feature is probably difficult to implement since the pure date data does
not include information about the base date. However, when copying data between
two OpenOffice.org spreadsheets this potentially could be handled by an internal
date format.

The priority of this enhancement is probably low since not too many people will
face this problem.
