Calc should allow more operations withmerged cells:
1) Inserting column or row inside the merged cells should be allowed, resulting in extension of merged cells over inserted cell and adding cells outside merged region. E.g. If there are merged cells A1,A2,A3, insering row at line 2 should be allowed, resulting in merged cells A1,A2,A3,A4
2) Direct adding more cells to the merged one. Currently, extending merged cell requires removing merge and merging new set of cells again
3) "Merge" and "Remove merge" buttons should be provided for toolbar

Quite very embarassing & lack of softness when dealing with merged cells. I use
this feature very often & got to unmerge do the required operations & merge
again. So much waste of time & annoying. May be this will be fixed up quite very
soon.
