Description norbert2 2004-03-10 20:50:52 UTC
In the windows version of OOo, trying to drag&drop pictures from the internet
explorer into calc adds the title of the internet-page from where this picture
comes into the cell, instead of the picture!

(In the writer this works.)

Hi Niklas,

as we should do it like Excel does, this must be changed from Hyperlink to Picture.

The same problem happens when right-clicking a picture in IE "Copy" and then
CTRL+v in Calc. Then also the title is inserted instead of the picture.

This (drag&drop or copy&paste) also applys the title of the internet-page where
the picture comes from as spreadshee-title!!!

(Due to another bug (issue 27058) this can only be seen if opening the window
with the spreadsheet's properties. Because the title is not shown at the top of
the OOo-window before saving the spreadsheet.)

Due to time problems this is re-targeted to OOo2.0
Comment 5 hagar_de_lest 2006-08-04 07:19:29 UTC
This bug occurs also with Writer if a picture is selected with text. Pasted
selection displays the text but no picture (broken link logo instead).
If picture is selected alone, copy-paste works.

Using Windows XP,
Using OOo 2.1,

The issue could be exactly reproduced.
The step by step and summary of the issue is as follows:

---> Using Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
- Open “Open Office Writerâ€, “Open Office Calcâ€, and Internet Explorer
- On Internet Explorer, copy an image only (no text) by right clicking on the

  image and choosing “copyâ€
- On Writer, right click on the page and click on “pasteâ€. The image is pasted
  correctly
- On Calc, right click on any cell and click on “pasteâ€. A white box appears
(not the picture) and there is link to a website inside the box. The link
does not appear to be the website where the picture was copied from.

- Now, on Internet Explorer, an image along with text is copied by highlighting
the image and the text and right clicking and clicking on “copy†
- On Writer, right click on the page and click on “pasteâ€. The picture is not
shown. There are blank boxes, but the text is pasted properly.
- On Calc, right click on any cell and click on “pasteâ€. The picture is not
shown. A blank box is shown along with the copied text.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

---> Using Mozilla Firefox version 2.0.0.1
- Open “Open Office Writerâ€, “Open Office Calcâ€, and Mozilla Firefox
- On Mozilla, copy an image only (no text) by right clicking on the image and
  choosing “copy imageâ€
- On Writer, paste it and it works fine. The image is pasted properly.
- On Calc, paste it and it works fine. The image is pasted properly.

- Now, on Mozilla, an image along with text is copied by highlighting the image
and the text and right clicking and clicking on “copy†and NOT “copy image†
since that will give the result in the two previous steps.
- On Writer, pasting it will result in a blank box with a link inside it. If
the link is clicked, a new Mozilla window will open with the picture in it.
The text part is pasted properly.
- On Calc, pasting it will result in a blank box only (not the picture). The
  text part is not pasted.

To work-around this bug, the image can be first pasted in “Paint†or “Microsoft
Excelâ€. The image has to be copied again from there and then pasted into Writer
or Calc. The image is pasted properly in this case. Please note that pasting
into Microsoft Word and copying again from there will result in blank box and
not the image.
Pasting in Paint or Microsoft Excel first and copying from there will work with
images only. The text part has to be copy pasted separately.

Sorry. The first file attached does not open and the second one is different
when opened from this page. I converted the OO files to PDF since in the
following link it mentions that attaching OO files don't work, but it doesn't
work properly--> http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/bug_writing_guidelines.html

In addition, My harddrive crashed and I have to office suite. My pastor
recommended this. Since, I am using a trial of Office 2007. I tansfer text and
pictures from one software to Word, in order to customize a report. This is
usally a min of 26 pages. When transfering to open source write. The pictures
and logos are broken links and blank. Interetingly, if I transfer from Word to
Write I can right click on the picture and it will find the correct picture in
the folder I create for each new client. I click it it tansfers. Word has
expired. If I copy paste directly from the software to Write, I have to find
each picture. There can be a hundred pictures. I look through once in the
software that generates the report. Than find each again with no way to see if
it is the correct picture. Therefore, I have to purchase office suite in the
meantime.
