There are a lot of products about with tabbed interfaces for multiple instances: the Firefox and 
Opera browswers, editors like Kate.  Many spreadsheets use tabs within a file.

I'd like to 
suggest that multiple open documents - or spreadsheets - could conveniently be handled with a 
tabbed interface.  I have not seen a mainstream word processor that does this, but it would be very 
useful, and a good bit of product differentiation.
