Description norbert2 2004-04-29 11:22:45 UTC
Some problems that Calc has with drawing objects. (Writer does not have these
problems. So it is Calc specific.)

- open a spreadsheet

- press the draw icon in the toolbar: a window with the drawing shapes opens.
That's OK.

- click the rectangle: the window closes. That's OK.

- draw a rectangle

- double click the rectangle to enter text-edit mode: Now the draw-icon in the
toolbar has switched to the Text ("T") symbol. That's not OK. Writer does not
do so! It is nonsense that now the textbox function is selected!

- move the mouse pointer a bit over the rectangle: It has move-style, like in
Writer. But in Calc the object cannot be moved! In writer this works. Showing a
move-pointer but not allowing to move is e defect.

- press ESC:
like already described above, now drawing textboxes is selected as draw-type in
the toolbar although we never have drawn a textbox.

i think this is a good solution. it just helps the user who wants to format the
text. i would even think that if it would have the contrary behaviour users
would file a RFE soon for changing it to the behaviour of the status quo.

i agree with you, Norbert, i would also see this as a defect.

"it just helps the user who wants to format the
text"

In which way should this help the user? I think this has nothing to do with
textformating!

This only affects that now textbox is preselected as new drawing object! I see
no sense there. I think writer's behaviour is better...
Comment 3 norbert2 2004-04-29 19:30:11 UTC
another problem:

- select a drawing object: the move-pointer is correctly shown

- click DEL (and do NOT click or move the mouse):

The move-pointer is still shown! Writer correctly sets the default mouse-pointer
after deleting.
Calc should do the same.

Hi,

the Textsymbol change is intentional, as Calc does not have an explicit text
object Icon.

According to Falko the move should work as in writer and draw. According to
Armin this has to be done by the Application itself, so Niklas it's your turn now.

I see no sense in switching to text-box-modewhat means that now textbox is
default drawing object.... !?!?!?

What I describe here are Calc-specific bugs that should be fixed.

(General OOo inconsistencies concerning the handling of drawing-objects and
solution suggestions are described in the framework issue 28562.)

(In this issue I also describe the problem that the cursor is not correctly
restored after deleting (drawing) objects.
Maybe there is a general problem in Calc with restoring mouse-pinter styles.
Therefore, please also have a look at issue 28778.)
