Description pavel 2004-05-28 23:01:24 UTC
Hi,

bug tracking system of our project is called IssueZilla. The provider of our
infrastructure changed the naming to "Issue tracker".

Please revert the naming back to IssueZilla. Many documents use that term and
users are really confused now.

It is an unbelievable mess right now:

- we all use IssueZilla

   - Japanese N-L project: http://ja.openoffice.org/issuezilla/index.html
   - German N-L project: http://de.openoffice.org/dev/about-issuezilla.html
   - French N-L project: http://fr.openoffice.org/docs/issuezilla.pdf
   - Czech N-L project: http://cs.openoffice.org/issuezilla/index.html
   ...

- many documents talk about IssueTracker

- links in the left panel contains "Issue tracker"

Is there any information available concerning the reasons of the name change
(may be license problems)?

Hi Rainer,

I guess it's because CollabNet is developing an own bug tracking system as
replacement for bugzilla. The replacement of 'zilla' seems to be the first step
of this migration process.

Have a look at: http://scarab.tigris.org/

IssueZilla is a component of the proprietary application SourceCast, as is IssueTracker. We have no
power to rename these components. They are not ours to rename. They belong to CollabNet.

What is recommended, then, is that those documents using that term replace IZ with IT.

OK, so I suggest changing all references to those proprietary applications
completely on our site and ask our community for a name of our bug tracking
system that is provided by those proprietary applications (we will still use
them, but have an alias ie. indirect reference to them). Thus we are safe when
the next rename happens.

My first ideas are IssueZombie and IssueZone.
Comment 5 khirano 2004-06-25 10:09:59 UTC
My ideas are IssueZip and IssueZap.

I believe that the best approach is to rename our links and documents to
IssueZilla. IMHO it's better than IssueTracker.

ps: BugIssue ? Ozilla? :)

When we moved over to IssueTracker(TM), I debated renaming everything accordingly. But IT is itself
inconsistent.

We cannot arbitrarily rename things on the site, esp. if the signified, IT/IZ is itself unclear.

So: let's stick with IssueZilla and have a phrase such as , "IssueZilla" (aka Issue tracker) does blah.

Zilla came from MoZilla, I don't know why we should use it.

I suggest:
OOoIssues.

It is not possible -> closing as WONTFIX.

I'll use IssueZilla from now on *very* consistently and suggest everyone else to
do the same.

ah, yet another old issue not closed.
