Currently, in Writer it is possible to put a formula inline in the text,
as an example I can put the equation E = m c^2 in the middle of the text
and, if the the text is reformatted, "E = m c^2" will stay between "equation"
and "in the middle" anyway.

In Impress, this is not possible: when I add a formula, such formula
is a separate object that will have its coordinates on the slide;
I have to leave some space between "equation" and "in the middle",
add the formula, drag the formula where I have left the space.
If the text is reformatted, or if I open the sxi document on another
platform (this usually implies a different formatting and a different
distribution of the text, even if a different version of the same
Linux distribution is used), that space in general will go elsewhere,
and the coordinates of the formula object will not correspond anymore
to the empty space left for the formula.

IMHO, the most clean way to solve this point would consist just of
allowing to put a formula inline with the text in Impress text boxes.

It should be possible to insert an equation anywhere in a line (not just at
the end) and have it behave like a very wide symbol, e.g., if text is
inserted to the left of the equation, the equation should automatically
shift to the right, and any text to the right of it should also shift,
wrapping to the next line if necessary. When an equation is inserted into a
presentation slide, the reasonable default behavior is that of an inline
object, although it makes sense to also allow users to create floating
equations. I'd also like to see automatic numbering of equations.

Although it would require minimal effort to convert PowerPoint into
something that meets the needs of scientists, mathematicians, and
engineers, Microsoft has never had the slightest interest in doing this.
There is no need for OOo to adopt the same attitude. In fact, improved
support for mathematics in presentations would be an excellent way for OOo
to distinguish itself from the Evil Empire.

Hello,

Could a maintainer mark this issue as a duplicate of issue 22309 ?

Of course this won't give a solution to the issue (which is now 6 years old...)
but at least it will clarify the situation.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
