Issue 33476

Summary: No handles on objects - editing broken
Product: Draw Reporter: ansorg <ooo>
Component: editingAssignee: wolframgarten
Status: CLOSED FIXED QA Contact: issues@graphics <issues>
Severity: Trivial
Priority: P3 CC: issues, khirano, maison.godard
Version: 680m51
Target Milestone: OOo 2.0
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 2000
Issue Type: DEFECT Latest Confirmation in: ---
Developer Difficulty: ---

Description ansorg 2004-08-27 11:11:15 UTC
This seems to affect al OO components in 1.9.51.

I get no handles on objects, be it rectangles in Draw or Impress or frames in
Writer. So there is no way to edit existing stuff (only through using
position/size dialogs)
Comment 1 wolframgarten 2004-08-27 11:24:26 UTC
Reproducible, but only in the OOosrc680m51. Our internal m51 build does not show
this defect.
Comment 2 wolframgarten 2004-08-27 11:24:44 UTC
Reassigned to Christian.
Comment 3 wolframgarten 2004-08-27 11:28:17 UTC
I don't know if this is correct at your adress. Something wrong with the drawing
layer?
Comment 4 mjneedles 2004-08-28 20:58:48 UTC
I noticed this, too. I cannot select a graphic in Writer, so resizing it is
more difficult, trial and error with measurements in the Graphic dialog.

Just a note that the problem also appears in the 1.9.54 snapshot.
Comment 10 webmaster 2004-09-19 00:56:12 UTC
I reinforce that comment: Just a note that the problem also appears in the
1.9.54 snapshot.

Please fix... This is a necessity ;)
Comment 11 watersrw 2004-09-20 15:06:31 UTC
Writer drawing objects *cannot* also be selected with handles (M54)
Comment 12 webmaster 2004-09-21 08:01:31 UTC
Sorry... Should have mentioned earlier: This problem is also present in Linux,
and all other platforms probably, but certainly the former.

Thankyou.
Comment 13 clippka 2004-09-21 11:25:58 UTC
Armin, maybe a problem with the special OOo graphics resources for the handles?
Comment 14 Armin Le Grand 2004-09-21 12:54:16 UTC
AW: Yes, indeed. The *.png files in /svx/source/svdraw, which contain the handle
graphics, were touched by CWS integration of aw017, i do not know why :-( I did
not change them, but for some reason they changed their sizes to 5 bytes (which
is obviously wrong).
AW: Good news is: No functionality broken, just the bitmaps for the handles
corrupted. I already checked in the previous version above the corrupted ones
(bug #i33327#). This is in aw018, should be integrated soon since it's a
bugfixing CWS.
AW: Bad news is: To get the handles back, You need to checkout the 4 *.png files
in /svx/source/svdraw/ (all on cvs version 1.3.72.1) and rebuild the ressources
for svx.
AW: Adding this task as fixed to CWS aw018.
Comment 15 ansorg 2004-09-21 14:05:47 UTC
is there any way to add those PNGs to a existing m54 installation?

I mean, download the pngs and then put them in the right place on my harddrive?

AW->WG: Please review. Todo: Look at
/so-cwsserv03/aw018/SRC680/src.m52/svx/source/svdraw/*.png if these are correct
and checked in. I may help if needed.

Comment 19 wolframgarten 2004-09-24 11:55:30 UTC
Fixed.
Comment 20 wolframgarten 2004-09-24 11:55:56 UTC
Verified in CWS.
Comment 21 wolframgarten 2004-10-05 13:38:17 UTC
Target set to 2.0
Comment 22 ansorg 2004-10-12 11:57:09 UTC
from some comments here and on the mailing list I got the impression that this
issue was fixed or at lest easy to fix since only a few images are missing in
the build.

Now I see Target 2.0 nad indeed, 680m56 shows no handles on objects :(

Drawings and presentations are main part of my OpenOffice.org usage pattern. But
this bug makes it realy difficult to test the draw and impress parts of the Suite.

please reconsider fixing this in the next build - makes testing easier :)

It's a fair cop, but I did search for this before creating bug 35697. But this
says it's fixed, yet there are 37 votes for it, and it is still present in
1.9.56 despite 1.9.51 being the original report.

How do we know there isn't something else wrong? It's not as though the cursor
changes to a diagonal arrow if you hover over where the graphics ought to be.
It's not just the handle that's missing, but the handle's functions too.

How can it be 'fixed'?
Comment 30 mjneedles 2004-10-18 18:48:03 UTC
Yes, it is fixed, but has not been integrated yet. Hopefully in the next
milestone (m58). I want it too, but we need to be patient.

Still broken in m58!
Comment 35 watersrw 2004-10-28 20:36:03 UTC
Actually, it only sometimes works...
Comment 36 webmaster 2004-10-28 21:47:04 UTC
I think the status needs to change on this:
OS: All
RESOLUTION: Not Yet Fixed

The problem is still continuing in m58, as you have been informed. Please fix
this problem.

I have just downloaded 1.9.58 for windows, and run it on XP.
The handles are there, and work, for me. Not been able to try it on Linux yet.
Comment 38 watersrw 2004-10-30 10:44:40 UTC
The handles are present, but 2 times when I used m58 the handles suddenly
disappeared and refused to reappear.
Comment 39 webmaster 2004-10-30 22:37:46 UTC
I have been using m58, handles have always appeared for me... The only problem
is disappearing. It seems that the workspace is not as frequently updated as in
previous versions, leaving partial patterns of the handles when deselected.

The handles not coming up for watersrw could be put down to simple instability,
perhaps?

These results are for linux, btw.
