utomo > boardquake: Please attach the documents, so we can test it. otherwise we cannot test and confirm the problems. Thanks Boardquake > utomo Hmmm! What you want to say is - attach your computer. There is nothing wrong with the file because: 1) it's not a specific document, it's all documents. 2) the documents look perfectly good on systems running XP SP1 and Linux. Naturally, I removed SP2 and everything is back to normal. If there is any other information I can provide, I'd be happy to - let me know. I test on win xp sp2. and nothing is wrong with my file. please try to update your VGA card driver. or give more info to track this problems. otherwise we cannot help with lack of info. my test OK on win xp sp2
I am very happy that there are no problems on your system once you've upgraded to SP2. I don't need proof. But on my system things don't look so good and I'm reporting it as I see it. My Nvidia drivers are up to date as is everyhing else. Let me know what other information you need. Now, if you can't test - you can't, and there's nothing that I could do about it except change my username to "ItoldUso" when more people report similar problems. All the best! On first sight, I have two suspicions: SP2 update may have scratched - your printer driver (or even have set a diffent default printer) - some of the fonts Do you have the same problem with other OO Applications (Spreadsheet, Presentation)? Do other Apllications like WordPad have similar problems, when displaying the fonts you also use in OpenOffice? >>mru
Thanks.
I use Writer only so I did not check the pagination on other applications, but
M$Word documents were unaffected.
Basically, I downloaded SP2 when it was released earlier last month. Seeing the
damage, I uninstalled it and cleaned up - things were back to normal. When SP2
showed up on my automatic update list last week I downloaded it again thinking
it's been polished, but I saw the same problems as you can see in the
attachment. On other pages I could see lines running outside the page itself.
I didn't try to uncheck 'printer metrics', and I made no experiments. I'm on a
deadline so I won't update again for a while (SP2 is not a priority for me).
I know other users haven't had problems under SP2.
My printer is a samsung ML and my videocard is an older NVidia (Ultra TNT 2).
I'll follow up if I have more information.
I don't think, that this is a problem af the graphic driver/card. To me, this sounds like a printer driver problem. OO uses printer metrics until version 1.0.x (which is also taken in mind by 1.1.x) and OO 1.1.x isn't fully independent from this (though it offers the option). OO 2.0 will be fully independent from printer metrics. I would ask you to install a differentdriver as printer default on your system, just for test cases. Open one of your problematic documents and in File.Printer Setting verify, that this Printer is active in your docment. Please see, if this still gives the display problems. Thanks for testing this! utomo > boardquake: please follow mru suggestion, as he can test and ask the related developers if needed faster and hope can solve it faster. because 1.1.3 is very near. boardquake ..> whomever this may concern. Many thanks to all who made helpful suggestions. Here are the steps I've taken and my conclusions: 1. I started fresh with XP SP1 OOO/StarOffice 7. Everything looks great. 2. I removed my printer driver and upgraded to SP2. 3. With or without an up to date printer driver, text looks garbled. Text insertion point moves irrationally as I navigate with arrow keys left and right. 4. Unchecking Printer metrics made things slightly more organised, but didn't solve the problem. 5. PROCEEDED TO UPGRADE to SP2 on my LAPTOP = ANOTHER MACHINE with SAME RESULTS. 6. At this point I suspected the problem may be with the font I use: Palatino LinoType. I modified the default font to Thorndale and the problem was solved. Other font worked well too. 7. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that the problem lies with the PALATINO FONT. Any thoughts? Boardquake --> utomo/mru I should mention also that Palatino has been known to do this before: see Microsoft KB330223. However, I am not experiencing any problems with Palatino in Microsoft Word. I've got the same problem. And yes, I use also the Palatino Linotype font. But as you can see in the attachment, I have also the same problems (even worse) with another font. This font is non-default, and installed by myself. Also, the characters are not only displayed incorrect, but when you try to select the text, other strange things will happen as you can see in the attachment. And when I scroll too much, OOo will hang, with 100% CPU usage. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 and a HP psc 2105 printer. So I don't think it depends on the grapics card or printer driver. Part of buggy text in Palatino Linotype

Part of buggy text with strange selection
I've installed SP2 again, and this time I checked the fonts that cause bugs. It seems te problem is only with OpenType fonts. I also installed OOo 1.1.3rc, and the latest 1.9 build, and both still had the same problem. So I'm back again with SP1 and OOo 1.1.2NL... Boardquake> oikoyama, If you really need Palatino, then you can do this: change the font from Palatino Linotype to Palatino (that's right!). You'll have no problem. BQ This issue can probably be fixed by upgrading to Windows XP SP2 before installing OpenOffice, as I did. *Add a tip in install program advising of this bug?- it may be difficult to fix and render the OpenOffice writer only compat with WinXP and up. Boardquake --> bradon173 I'd like to know why you think that the issue can "probably" be fixed. Did you try it? Did you even have this problem? This is some time-consuming advice you're giving, so I hope that it's founded and you're not just speculating. Boardquake --> Utomo99; mru I followed you advice, posted here the results, but I have not heard a thing for two weeks. Are you still on top of this? utomo > boardquake: Yes I am still listening. but I cannot help much, as I did not get the problems in my win xp sp2. but sorry I forget to mention that in my case. I use fresh win xp sp2 full install (not the upgrade one) and then install the OOo. so my report against this issue is not relevant. I also hear that in my friends win xp sp2 (upgrade from win xp sp1) she have problems opening attachements in email(outlook) which associated with OOo. but I did not have chance to investigate more. Thanks ES->MRU: I have found this font on my system and I had a talk with HDU. He rated it as "a very interesting new generation font"... and added we *may* have problems to support every of its features... On the other hand I couldn't reproduce the described behavior on 2 different WinXP SP2 with pre-installed OOo. We may need boardquake's fonts but, of course by private e-mail because they are not free. There definitely is a problem with Palatino Linotype. There are a couple of bugreports regarding this font already. Please have a look at issue 27336 (and duplicates thereof) and bump prio. The root cause is duplicate to issue 27336. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 27336 *** closing duplicate. |
