The MSWord document containing two embedded objects. none

Description mikhail.voytenko 2004-09-07 11:40:08 UTC
Open the attached MSWord document on either Linux or Solaris.
Store it by using SaveAs in any other file in the same format.
Close the document and open the result file. => Embedded objects are gone.

Actually, the document itself contains the objects persistance storages, but
looks like there is no reference to the objects in the document body. So it
looks pretty like problem in the export filter.

The MSWord document containing two embedded objects.
Comment 2 martin_maher 2004-10-13 15:26:48 UTC
mmaher->dr: Maybe you have seen something similar in excel filters
Comment 3 ooo 2005-01-21 12:11:25 UTC
reassigned due to resource constraints; approved by AMA
Comment 4 martin_maher 2005-01-25 16:41:20 UTC
mmaher->mav: Some clarification required. When you open the original document in
Writer you have two graphics and two speaker icons indicating embedded sound
files. However these are not imported and can't be played (we don't support this
feature bug has been filed issue 41024). Can this bug be closed as duplicate?
Comment 5 mikhail.voytenko 2005-01-26 07:40:01 UTC
mav->mmacher: Sorry, for now I see no relation between those two bugs.
Impossibility to activate the object does not mean that it should not be stored.

You can try to open the bugdoc on linux, store it in .odt format, and open the
result .odt file on windows - the embedded objects are correct and can be used.
Open the bugdoc on linux, store it in .doc format - on any platform the objects
are lost. As I have already mentioned the objects seems to be stored in the
document but it looks like the filter just does not add a reference to them in
the document.
Comment 6 martin_maher 2005-01-26 10:45:06 UTC
mmaher->mav: Ok I agree i41024 is not a duplicate. I am having problems
reproducing this issue on windows. Can you confirm on a recent build on windows?
Is this a linux only problem (I don't have access to a linux system right now).
Comment 7 mikhail.voytenko 2005-01-26 11:09:40 UTC
Yes, the scenario works well on Windows. I didn't try the solaris version, but I
would expect that it behaves itself in this case in the same way. One of
possible problems could be wrong reaction of the filter for the impossibility to
switch object to the running state.
Comment 8 mikhail.voytenko 2005-01-26 11:20:09 UTC
Ups...
There is a mistake the latest post:
"Yes, the scenario works well on Windows. I didn't try the solaris version, but
I would expect that it behaves itself in this case in the same way."
should be
"Yes, the scenario works well on Windows. I didn't try the solaris version, but
I would expect that it behaves itself in this case in the same way
as Linux."

Comment 9 andreas.martens 2005-02-01 07:42:22 UTC
If it's not fixed in time for OOo2.0, it should be fixed for OOo2.0.1.
Comment 10 martin_maher 2005-05-05 10:23:14 UTC
mmaher->flr: Your's methinks
Comment 11 andreas.martens 2005-05-25 14:42:51 UTC
Considering the effort, the priority, the risk and our resource planning I've to
retarget this issue to OOo Later.
Comment 12 pacanukeha 2005-06-16 18:46:48 UTC
Using 1.9.104, if I open a word doc generated by Office 2000 that has embedded
objects generated by copying and pasting from visio then the images appear. If
I make a change and save, the images are replaced with a vaery large plug icon.
If I close and reopen the images reappear. If I save the doc as an odt the
same thing happens.

I don't have visio installed on my machine.
Comment 13 Mathias_Bauer 2006-08-30 14:28:45 UTC
changing target
Comment 14 Mathias_Bauer 2007-12-04 15:38:25 UTC
target 3.0

Mikhail, is it something for Henning or perhaps better something you could
investigate?
Comment 15 mikhail.voytenko 2007-12-06 14:58:03 UTC
I could try to investigate it, but it would probably take more time than Henning
needs. As I have written the objects them self are stored. The reference from
the document seems to be missing, and I must confess I do not know currently
much about this part of word documents format.
Comment 16 openoffice 2008-05-30 15:19:43 UTC
reset target due to lack of resources
Comment 17 Marcus 2017-05-20 10:47:58 UTC
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
