Description rhainsworth 2004-11-14 11:35:01 UTC
When drawing charts, I often want to hightlight a particular level (eg a date or
threshold).

If I generate a chart, eg. Activity (y-axis) vs time (x-axis), I can add lines
using drawing tools and place at appropriate position (eg when some new factor
begins to affect activity). But if I reformat the x-axis (eg. expand length of
chart), the placing of the line is unpredictable.

It would be good to include in definition of line, within the options relating
to the position of the line/object, have an option that anchors the object to a
specified axis/coordinate position(s).

I have not thought through the details, but this may be a useful feature. In the
meanwhile you can try to use the 'Axis at' option to place the x or y axis line
at a certain position at the other axis -> so you can simulate a single line in
each direction. Another workaround would be to create an additional data series.

Very pleased my suggestion being taken up.

Could not find work around when I did this. A new data series does not have the
same effect visually as it is treated as another line and put in the legend with
other series (no way of excluding series from the the legend that I can see).

Axis at solution implies secondary axis not used in graphic, but I tend to use
both axes.

I did try a variety of workarounds. Essentially, I had to put up with
reformatting each time. Problem was especially bad when a graphic is constructed
in Calc and then transferred to a presentation.
