The IRIX/gcc specific makefile needs some updating to bring it inline with other
platforms.

Nick, for this specific file you do not need approval. Same for the 
platform specific code in bridges.

I opened commit access for you to commit your changes to the 
OOO_STABLE_1 branch. commit's on this branch need at least one 
issuezilla issue per project and approval by the project lead.
