Description lohmaier 2005-01-21 20:25:17 UTC
Problem: Xnest does not provide the RENDER extension, so when OOo is run inside
an Xnest-Window fonts are not antialiased unless the color depth is set to 24 or
32 bit.

Gnome and other applications use antialiasing even in 16bit.

cp->hdu: I guess it's more appropriate to fix Xnest accordingly, however I'm not
sure how difficult it is to fix in OOo. Not for 2.0 anymore
Comment 2 lohmaier 2005-02-03 21:01:01 UTC
please see issue 40919 as well. Antialiasing fails although RENDER is available
(FreeBSD)
Comment 3 hdu@apache.org 2005-02-07 13:29:59 UTC
The antialiasing infrastructure in VCL was rather inefficent, so the text
antialiasing didn't use it. And the 565/555*LSB/MSB cases were not implemented.
Now that the AA infrastructure gets improved it will be much easier to do it. On
the other hand everybody is moving to 24/32 bit truecolor, so spending
development resources on 15/16bit AA text is questionable. We'lll rather move to
XFT...

I did not understand that comment at all (too much tech-talk :-) but I don't
care how this is implemented....

I just know that gnome-applications use anti-aliased text in Xnest, whereas OOo
doesn't :-)

(And I disagree with the comment: "everybody is moving to 24/32 bit truecolor")
