File in which File1.sxw must be inserted
MRU->OS: inserting the mentioned file at the marked point will stop the "Bold" attribute for the text following the insertion point. SBA: Adjusted summary. I replicated it. i using OOo1.1.4 windows2000 5.00.2195 sevice pack 4 first i create a file contains one line all bold. then create another file contains all bold and try to use "insert">"file" give the first file. the text behind the inserted file become normal, but only happened in same line of the insertion place. the text afterward seems no change. and i tried italic. the same, the text in the same line after become normal. and i tried insert file with multiple lines. just the text after the last line of inserted file become normal. The problem is reproducible in Ooo1.1.3, Ooo1.1.4 on Window XP build 2600 Intel Pentium 3 processor 996MHz, 512MB of RAM and on Windows 2000 SP3 x86 Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 2AT/AT compatible 196,148 RAM. It also reproduced in Ooo1.1.0 under Linux 2.4.26 Intel Celeron 766MHz 128MB RAM. These are some follow up test cases: Insert 'fileInsert' which does not have bold text in the middle or the begining of text in 'file2', the last string within a line in 'file2' becomes normal format. Insert File1 here: FileInSert aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa or FileInSert Insert File1 here: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa It does not change the format of the text in next line. Sometimes, it is only affects the last word or the few last words and does not affect the word right after the inserted position. Therefore, the deffect behaviour is not consistent. It sometimes changes its behavior when I create new file and start insert the file into it , or I keep inserting the file then undo--> save -->insert 'insertFile' and 'insertFileBold' for many times, and somehow it works fine without the deffect. I was able to replicate the bug with Open Office 1.1 on a Linux OS and with Open Office 1.4 on a Windows XP OS. It appears that when inserting file A into file B, file B would loose bold character after the point of insertion only if the terminating character in file A is bold. Furthermore file B would only loose bold character on the line where insertion was done. It would retain its bold character everywhere else. Here are a few follow up tests and their results: 1 – Inserting an all-bold file A into file B which is bold before and after the point of insertion: B looses bold character after point of insertion. 2 – Inserting an all-bold file A into file B which is bold only before the point of insertion: No change occurs. 3 – Inserting an all-bold file A into file B which is bold only after the point of insertion: B looses bold character after point of insertion. 4 – Inserting a partially-bold file A into file B which is bold before and after and after the point of insertion: B looses bold character after point of insertion. 5 – Inserting a partially-bold file A into file B which is bold only before the point of insertion: No change occurs. 6 – Inserting a partially-bold file A into file B which is bold only before the point of insertion: B looses bold character after point of insertion. I also performed some follow-up testing to find that the bug is limited to just bold character or if it spills over to other font characteristics. I was able to reproduce the problem in the following environments, - MS Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4, OpenOffice 1.1.4 - Red Hat Linux 7.3 Kernel 2.4.26, OpenOffice 1.1.0 Steps Followed: 1.Start OpenOffice 2.Open file1 3.Format text (either italics, bold, underline) 4.Position cursor in the formated text of file1 5.Go to “Insert -> File†and insert file 2 6.Observer Results In step 6 part of the data following the insertion point will lose its format and become normal. The error is inconsistent as for some insertions only one line is affected, for others more than a paragraph can be affected (following the insertion point). Follow-up Tests: - tested: italics, bold, underline There is a small typo in the comment I submitted. I apologize. Here is the correction. The last paragraph should read: 'I also performed some follow-up testing to find that the bug is limited to just bold character and does not spill over to other font characteristics.'
