Description jwt 2005-01-28 18:11:36 UTC
I need to be able to unlink fields from data sources more easily than by using
the cut and paste special method, particularly since this loses formatting and
so can only be used a field at a time. E.g. by using Ctrl+Shift+F9 as in MS Word.

I also need to be able to do this at once for a whole document or a section of
it containing a number of fields.

This can be done by the Edit.Links dialog. This option will be enabled as long
as you have asy linked sections, graphics, etc. in your document

Closed.
Comment 3 jwt 2005-02-01 16:24:24 UTC
It does not work for me. The fields I am referring to are mail merge fields.
The links dialogue is greyed out. What are "asy" linked sections?
Comment 4 michael.ruess 2005-02-01 17:04:21 UTC
Ah, that was the missing information. You are talking about mail merge fields.
MRU->HI: pls evaluate.

Any progress on this? It is an ongoing annoyance for me. Specifically, I have
a table with fields that are filled using "data to fields". I need to be able
to email this to people with the results in the table, not the fields.

This is something that I find very useful in Word and would really like to see
in OOo Writer. As an editor I often work with documents that contain
bibliographies created in something like Endnote, and I need to unlink all the
fields to make them normal text. It is an issue not just for mailmerge fields
but for all fields.

I am attaching a simple document containing some fields to illustrate what is
needed. I have voted for this issue. Like jwt, the Edit>Links menu item is
greyed out on this document, so I haven't been able to see how it could be used
for this.

I could definitely use such a feature as well.
