We write all our documents in A5 page format, and it's extremely convenient to 
be able to put two pages on screen at a time, side by side. I've been unable to 
find that option so far.

You can get 2 pages at once via menu File-PagePreview. But because you
can not edit your document in this view, I guess that you were talking
about zoom otions for the view while editing => Reassigned to Christian.
