"That button is included in the Text toolbar, which is hidden by default.": can you show me with a screenshot which button do you mean? Thanks. I cannot see any available or hidden callout button in the text toolbar. Created attachment 23504 [details]
Example and screenshot of Text toolbar and callouts
OK, I have included an screen shot in an Impress document that should have Text toolbar open and examples of callout types. I have realized that the new "Line Callout 1" and "Line Callout 3" are essentially the same. Both have a single line segment attached to the textbox. In "line callout 3" this line is vertical, but the "verticality" in not enforced (make line only vertical or horizontal). You can drag the line in any angle. Thus, this drawing object has exactly the same use as "Line callout 1". It is a pity such a duplication occurs at the same time that classic Callout objects are forgotten from the Callout toolbar. - Enrique - Hallo Christian, does it really make sense to have this text-toolbar vailable? Shouldn't we just kick it out and maybe have the callout added to the others? Please decide. Hi, In the old 1.1.x UI this toolbar was opened from the Drawing toolbar by long-click on Text. My preference would be to keep that kind of functionality. making the "text-toolbar" long-click open from the T icon in the Drawing toolbar. Another good solution would be just to drop that text-toolbar and add teh "classic callout" to the Callouts toolbox. I do not understand why now the first items in the drawing toolbar are just simple drawing tools instead and long-clik toolboxes as they were (this is issue 44247). This means less functionality in the UI. A user can put as "direct" click the most used tool, without need to dock separate toolbars (wasting screen space). I have heard the argument that new users may be confused by having a different icon in the same place if they select another tool. But: a) New/novice users probably never change it to another b) The 1.1.x design is superior to MSO, Why drop it away? Even more when OOo 2.0 beta *do* keep several toolboxes with that function. See the "Curve" and "Connector" items in the Drawing toolbar. They do let you chose the tool and remember it. I have the impression that the new design of the Drawing toolbar has not been considered in full. I think that some decisions were made without thinking in the consequences for overall functionality and consistency of the UI. I do not know if the main goal was to "look like MSO", but it seem to. However, the result is a mix, inconsistent, prone to more confusion. I agree it may be easier for teh absolute beginner, but it makes the learning curver more steep than before (it is more difficult to become an expert user), and work with advances features by teh expert user is less eassy now. It is NOT possible to work as before in soem parts, we are *forced* to do as begginers. Compulsory fit into a UI is not quite friendly. - Enrique - CJ: Accepted and changed target to later |
