Description ktyler 2005-05-17 20:46:14 UTC
When using drag-fill on a merged cell, two problems are encountered.

1. The fill data is inserted into regular cells, instead of expanding into new
merged cells isometric with the cell(s) providing the fill source.

2. Normal auto-fill-calculation, which works properly with regular cells, does
not work the same with merged cells.

Example:

1. Create a merged cell of any size.
2. Enter 3/1/04 into that cell.
3. Create another merged cell, adjacent to and of the same cell size as the
first cell. Enter 4/1/04 into the resulting merged cell.
4. Highlight both cells.
5. Use drag-fill (drag the selection area by the square in the bottom right
corner) and drag to the right.

Compare the result values with those from doing the same operation with
adjacent, non-merged cells. Also compare with other spreadsheet software.

Checked with OOo1.1.4 and OOo1.9.106 and found fixed in the later version.

As 1.9.106 is the currently developed version I close this Issue as worksforme.

Hi Frank,

Please forgive me for reopening this issue. A similar problem was reported
through Korean community forum and I confirmed that this issue still exists in
OO.o 2.0 beta2 (1.9.m125). Would you take a look at the attached screenshot?

Thanks,
Jeongkyu

Hi,

following the description given by the reporter, this Issue is fixed.

For your Issue please file a new Issue with type enhancement. This is because
mixing up to Issue types isn't a good Idea and your Issue has never worked in
Calc, so it's an enhancement request.

Sorry for no better reply.

Hi Frank,

> following the description given by the reporter, this Issue is fixed.

Please forgive me for reopening this issue again. _I followed the steps given by
the reporter exactly_, and still see the problem in the latest version.

I am going to attach two screenshots - one for merged cell scenario in the
description and the other for typical non merged cell scenario.

Hi,

please file an enhancement request for making drag fill working like Excel. It
makes it more clear as this Issue is quite old and as I told you before mixing
up Issues isn't a good idea.
