Help -> Contents -> Fonts -> Adding fonts under Unix -> Adding Fonts
This guide doesn't say anything like the user should check if he has the right
format. So I first assumed OpenOffice accepts and autodetects all existing font
formats.

However, when adding Gill Sans, I had .pfa and .pfb file. I didn't know how to
add font with two files, therefore added both. Result: when switched to Gill,
text vanished. Then I tried .pfa only and the vanishing was still there. Only
after installing .pfb only, the text survived font change.

I think the guide should include a step "check that your font file is one of the
supported formats: .pfb, ..., ...,).

JA: If you use a pfa based font then an afm (Adobe Font Metric) file is
necessary. Otherwise the font won't be accepted by spadmin. Even a pfb file
should have an afm file to get the font metrics but AFAIK OOo 2.0 will generate
font metrics by magic...

JA->UFI: this issue can be closed as "worksforme" as type1 fonts always need a
font metric file

The Add Fonts dialog adds the fonts correct for all complete sets of font files.
As we try to keep instructions as short as possible, we do not want to add more
information just for the very rare case that the dialog does not work.
