Description jeongkyu.kim 2005-07-12 05:22:11 UTC
How to reproduce

1. Open OpenOffice.org Calc.
2. Expand 'Background Color' toolbar button.
3. Select 'Brown' (7th color at the 1st row).
4. Confirm the backgournd color is not brown.

The same issue also applies to other OO.o applications.

(BTW, I found this issue with OO.o 1.9.113 but I could not find the version from
above selection list.)

While I was creating OO.o color listing (
http://oooko.net/gomme/wp-content/uploads/ooo_color_table.pdf ) to research
Korean translation, I found another issue in color table.

The colors from 2nd to 6th (Blue, Green, Turguoise, Red, Magenta) seem to be
_dark_ colors. Considering frequency of colors being used, it would be better to
change the color itself than to change names.

(Let me change the summary of this issue to more general one.)

Changing summary from 'The brown color in color table seems to be incorrect' to
'Color names mismatch in color table'.

The following changes seem to be necessary on color names.

Blue      -> Dark blue
Green     -> Dark green
Turquoise -> Dark turquoise
Red       -> Dark red
Magenta   -> Dark magenta
Brown     -> _Dark yellow_

I think this is an enhancement and not a defect.
Comment 5 jeongkyu.kim 2005-07-13 18:23:49 UTC
Hi cgu,

I agree that my suggestions are enhancements except the one for brown. The brown
is obviously incorrect.

Hi,

Considering color selection UI in impress, I belive this issue should be handled
as 'defect'.

Please see the attached screenshot. The UI in writer displays colors as main
information and shows its name as auxiliary one. In contrast to this, the UI in
impress has more importance in color names. This UI seems to lead users to
choose color _by its name_. Thus, I belive that those mismatched color names
really confuse users.
