Description harlanb 2002-05-24 21:44:13 UTC
I have many complicated MS-Word template files (dot) that I need to use
regularly. OpenOffice is not able to open and use them as MS-Word can. I do
realize that functionality may not be the same; however, these files need to
usable. I have examples of the files that I can send to you so you can evaluate
them.

Overall, I like OpenOffice. Keep up the Great Work!!!!

Harlan...

P.S. I'm not able to CC: my email account. It keeps saying something about
invalid account name.

Thanks for posting Harlan.

Could you please upload some template files which causes the problem
you described.

If you open up your issue 5260, there is a link "Create a new
attachment" which will let you upload test files to this issue.

Thanks.

Harlan, thanks for posting an attachment.

I was able to open the template file.

Are you having trouble opening the template file or are you having
issues with how OO renders the template file?

Unable to duplicate on Win NT 4.0, OO 1.0.1.

Noticed some rendering problems, but I'm sure it's a duplicate of
another issue.
Comment 4 harlanb 2002-07-23 15:06:47 UTC
Hello,

Using NT and MS-Word, I am able to fill in the template and save the
completed file, using the "Save As" option, to another file and later
pull it up again. I have not been able to do this under OO.

Also, drop down boxes are not filled in, or even present under OO as
they are in MS-Word (capf100.dot - attached to ticket). There are areas
of the form that you can type in text that I can't do that
(capf002a.dot, section VII - attachment with this message). While
printing with Word, the grey boxes with the "???", the grey boxes become
transparent and don't show up on the printout allowing the text to
print; with OO, they print black hiding the entered text.

Of course, the rendering needs more work, as you said below. It would
be nice to have the forms print out correctly.

Thank you very much for working on this. If there is anything else I
can help you make OO better, please let me know.

Thanks for the additional file Harlan.

Duplicate on Win NT 4.0, OO 1.0.1.

*** I'm not sure if this is a duplicate of an export to MS format
issue or a MS form issue.

1. Open up capf002a.dot
2. Make some changes.
3. Save as MS Word 97/2000/XP format.
The changes will not be saved.
4. Save as OO Writer Text format.
    The changes will be saved.

Hello,
My problems, right now, are with step 2 you mentioned in your last
mesage "2. Make some changes." Example: I am not able to use the
drop down selections - "Grade" is one of them. Under Word 97 (on NT
4.0), they appear, under OO 1.0.1 (Linux) they don't. Again,
rendering is not quite right: textboxes don't fit inside the table
borders. If you need more specifics, please let me know and I'll put
together a more complete list.

Template files: if you need more, let me know; there are over 90
total. :-)

Thanks again...

Textboxes not fitting inside the table borders is issue 3029.

The (ww6/7 form control style) drop down list box is not supported for
import at this time, and the export of these sort of controls is
compromised by exporting them back as modern vba style controls.

Feel free to make this a feature request for import support of the ww6
style drop down list control, or as a general request to support im
and ex of the ww6/7 controls correctly.
