When printing envelopes it would be nice if OO would select the manual paper tray when printing. At
the least, it should save your preferences for a particular document type.

I did not test the mentionned Function, but what you say seems to be
senseful.

Hi OOo-staff,
it is quite dispiriting for all helpers If there is absolutely no
reaction from OOo-staff to the bug-reports - not even a change of the
issue status from unconfirmed to new!

If someone can confirm this problem, target milestone should be future
or something like that.

Rainer

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

I attempted to print envelopes from OOo. I did not see anywhere that I could select a manual paper tray or a place to save my preferences when selecting a particular paper type such as legal or landscape, or an envelope. I do not have specifics as to what type of printer is needed to print envelopes or other documents. Is this a feature that needs to be added to the system, or is it not functioning properly? I do not have all of the information I need to properly evaluate what the actual bug is here. Do we need to have functionality for selecting a manual paper tray when we print envelopes and/or do we need to add a save preference? I agree that these features would be nice to have. Is this a request or an actual bug?

I am reviewing your report and I took the following steps to replicate it:
My computer is an HP EliteBook 8440p Windows 7 and the printer is Konica Minolta C754SeriesPCL . I opened a new document in Open Office Writer 4.0
(AOO401m5(Build:9714) - Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29 (Fr, 20 Sep 2013)
•Choose File – Print – General - Properties
•Click the Basic tab.
•In the Paper Size box select Envelope Com 10
•In the Paper tray box, select Tray 1 (Note: there is a warning icon in front of the Tray choices)
•Click OK.

Error Message 1 appears (See attachment)

I also attempted the following steps outlined in OOo Help:
•Choose Format - Styles and Formatting.
•Click the Page Styles icon.
•Right-click the page style icon at the top
•Choose Modify.
•In the Paper tray box, select the paper tray that you want to use.
•Click OK.
I was unable to complete steps 5 and 6 as the Paper tray option did not appear.

Then I ran these steps with another printer choice(Dell Laser Printer M5200 n XL (V)
Choose File – Print – General – Printer Laser - Properties
•Click the Paper/Quality tab.
•In the Paper Source box select Manual Envelope (Note: there is a warning icon in front of the Tray choices)
•In the Media envelope (Note: there is a warning icon in front of the Tray choices)
•Click OK.

Error Message 2 appears (See attachment)

I have not been able to select the manual paper tray successfully, nor save any preferences without getting an error message of some sort. I have located a similar Bug report (Bug 11592 – Printing envelopes on Laser Jet). That report indicates the printer is LaserJet / Dell 2330dn.
This issue appears to be due to preset default settings of Print Trays with these printers.

A couple additional tests I would recommend would be to follow the same steps for printing envelopes with another printer choice, and then to test selecting a different paper choice instead of envelopes to verify if the manual paper tray can be selected successfully.
This would help to isolate if this behavior is specific to these printers and or envelopes only.

I would agree that allowing the user options to select a specific paper tray would be beneficial in terms of time/cost savings as it would allow envelope print jobs to be executed without tying up other print tray jobs, especially with large mailings.

Please note this correction to my previous comment: the similar Bug Report I located is Bug #115692.

I was reviewing this bug report and I attempted to replicate it by first opening a new document in Open Office Writer 4.0.1. Using the following steps I was able to set my paper tray to "Manual envelope" as my default and it saved my selection.

*Select --> File --> Print -->  Properties
*Click on the Paper tab
*In the Paper size box select Envelope 10 (there were other envelope options to select)
*In the Fit to paper box select Envelope 10 (there were other envelope options to select)
*In the Paper tray box select Manual envelope
*Click ok

I did not receive any errors.

This issue may have been corrected with my version of Open Office.

In trying to understand exactly what the bug is that is being reported, I attempted to recreate it with the minimal information provided. It does let me choose a tray (tray 1, tray 2, tray3, tray4), but it generates a "conflict status" error. Each different tray I manually select gives me a different "conflict status" error. Also, I did not see where there is an option to save the user settings. I am not sure if this is an actual bug or if this is more of an enhancement that is being requested. It's also possible that with more information, this functionality may exist if set up properly. This potential bug appears to have 2 different things being questioned. One for the manual paper tray option, and one for saving the user preferences. I will need more information to further investigate.

In evaluation of this short report, I can only assume what steps you have taken to perform this task since you did not provide any specific part of your procedure.

I attempted to replicate your problem scenario after I started a new document in the following steps:
1. In the task bar, choose File --> Print
2. Under General tab, select the Properties button
3. Under Paper/Quality tab, there is an enclosed section labeled Tray Selection
in which I do not see any options to select a manual paper tray option, thus
I proceeded to the next step
4. Click the Advanced button under the Paper/Quality tab
5. In the drop down menu labeled Paper Size, there are 4 options for Envelopes;
Envelope #10, Envelope C5, Envelope C6, Envelope DL
I selected Envelope #10 as a test case and applied all changes and proceeded
to print a file under these settings.

I repeated steps 1 through 5 to see if any changes have applied from the print job and noticed the drop down menu in step 5 reverted back to its default Letter selection. I am not aware if this is a bug you are encountering since printing jobs and preferences, in my experience, are usually adjusted per print job. Thus, for me, this seems like a normal behavior. I have also viewed your attachments and did not run across any of these pop up windows during my whole printing process.

I did not see any features in which you can set preferences for specific document types nor have I ever been aware of such features, so I am not sure how to rectify this problem if it is, in fact, a bug. However, since there is not much information provided on this problem, I am unsure if this is a bug in the Open Office system or a functionality feature you would like to be included. However, I do agree that having this feature would be particularly useful and time-saving.
