Description Unknown 2001-03-14 01:35:56 UTC
In the build number field, we'd like to be able to select StarOffice 5.2.
Currently, only OpenOffice.org build numbers are provided as choices.
Specifically, this is needed for graphics, spreadsheets and word processing.
Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle,

By the build number field,
am I correct in assuming you are referring to "Version" in IssueZilla?

If so,
my understanding is that Sun already has the administration priviledges to make
this change,
thus reassiging to stefan.taxhet@germany.sun.com
(and adding bphipps@collab.net to Cc:).

However, if I may ask,
why would OpenOffice.org issues want to reference StarOffice 5.2?

Yes, this is a change to the version field, sorry.

The reason for this is that we'd like to be able to direct users to IssueZilla
to file their StarOffice 5.2 MS office filter bugs. Instructions and directions
for doing this will include the idea that the user also downloads and installs a
build of openoffice and checks out the file, to see if the bug still exists.

I'm also a bit surprised about this idea.
If a bug is confirmed to be in OOo an OOo Version could be mentioned by the
submitter.
If a bug was in StarOffice5.2 and *may be* in OOo Michael's has to reprocduce
the problem.
As Michael is also the maintainer of the Version values it's his decision.

I agree with Stefan. OpenOffice.org is not designed to host StarOffice 5.2
bugs, no matter what reasons might be uttered to do so. Improving MS
compatibility is one of the main requirements for new versions. People have to
check their bugs against an OpenOffice.org version. We appreciate if they give
us additional information like 'worked in 5.2' or something like that, but
checking against OpenOffice.org is a MUST. Otherwise my team would have to do
that, and this is not acceptable.

We won't fix that.
