Description adrian.macneil 2005-10-26 11:18:19 UTC
I have work saved on my usb pendrive. I open these files, edit them, and close them.
Unfortunately, after I have been working on them, Windows won't let me eject the
drive using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature. (presumably because OOo still
has the files open in its memory).

WORKAROUND:
To resolve this issue, I simply exit the OpenOffice.org Quickstarter, and the
drive ejects fine.
Note that although this is obvious to me, most users would just get frustrated
that their drive won't eject, and pull it. This could lead to data loss if OOo
is in fact still using the file.

Obviously OOo is keeping the files open somehow, and it needs to release them
once they have been closed, even if the quickstart application is still running.

Sorry if I have posted this under the wrong component, I couldn't find the
quickstart component anywhere.

james_san: Sorry to say that this is not the right place to share such tipps, this is a pure bug-tracking
system. Please provide this information somwhere else.

sw->james_san: that is a "feature" of the windows filedialog, which locks the
folder as long as the application is running which used it. You could change to
the OOo-Dialog by checking "Use OOo dialogs" on the page "Tools-Options-General".
