In Microsoft Office trailing spaces were ignored when filtering a
column. Is there a way to do this in OpenOffice? I've looked through
the documentation and was unable to find the answer to this question.
My problem is that when I run the auto-filter on the records, I will
receive multiple representations for the same value because each one has
a different number of spaces trailing the text. What I really want is
to ignore these trailing spaces like Microsoft Excel did so users don't
need to go in and delete all the trailing spaces. Thank you for your
help.

I don't know if its needed but I checked this on OpenOffice version 109 and 125
on two different NT boxes.

Hi,

please use regular expressions for that.

Have a look at the latest comment from Eike on Issue 43156 .

That helps if I want it done at an exact moment, but I'm looking more for
something that is done automatically by default (like in Excel), I want it such
that after you apply the autofilter it gives the proper list of values rather
than having those entries with trailing spaces as sepperate entries in the
list. Is there no way to set OpenOffice Calc to ignore trailing spaces by
default when filtering? Or is the only option to go through and manually run
this special filter every time I want spaces ignored? Thank you
