Description ricmarques 2005-12-27 18:08:24 UTC
OpenDocument files available in the HOWTO page -
http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/index.html - are being sent with a
wrong MIME type (MIME content types).

For instance, the following document:
http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/various_topics/AndrewFontMacro.odt
... is being sent with Content-Type: text/plain

To check this, go to a page like:
http://web-sniffer.net/

... and paste the URL to the ODT (OpenDocument Text) file above in the "HTTP-
(S) URL" textbox.

In the "HTTP Response Header" you can see that the 6th line of the table reads:
Content-Type: text/plain

The same thing happens to the OTS file (OpenDocument Spreadsheet Template)
available in that page, namely:

Project-Management with Gantt-Charts Calc template.
http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/spreadsheet/pjm_template.ots

The MIME types for OpenDocument files (odt, ods, odp, odb, ott, ots, otp ...)
should be set for the documentation.openoffice.org Web Server configuration,
as specified in the following web page (available from the
framework.openoffice.org website):

Mime Content Types used in OpenOffice.org1.0 / StarOffice 4.x and later
http://framework.openoffice.org/documentation/mimetypes/mimetypes.html

So the "odt" extension should be set to
the "application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text" MIME content type, the "ods"
extension should be set to "application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet"
and so on...

The current situation - sending the MIME type for these files as text/plain -
leads to the following undesirable situation when using Internet Explorer (IE)
6 on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 (SP2) applied:

- If the "Security Settings" (in Tools | Internet Options, Security tab) for
the "Internet" Zone has the "Open files based on content, not file extension"
option ENABLED: the file extension of the downloaded document gets renamed to
ZIP.

- If the "Security Settings" (in Tools | Internet Options, Security tab) for
the "Internet" Zone has the "Open files based on content, not file extension"
option DISABLED: the file is downloaded as (garbled) text to the browser
window.
