Description luddite1812 2006-01-17 13:35:30 UTC
When I edit a date in the "Edit Field: Variables" Dialog the value is incorrect.

For example, the date format is '31 Dec 1999'. Today's date of '17 Jan 2006'
appears in the value text area as '38734'.

Reassigned to ES.
Comment 2 lars 2006-01-17 17:18:46 UTC
probably duplicate to issue 59919?
Comment 3 eric.savary 2006-01-18 11:01:35 UTC
Please describe step by step what you insert and which format you choose.
Comment 4 luddite1812 2006-01-18 16:22:56 UTC
I have a field in the writer document that is a date.

1) I right click on it,

2) then select 'field'

3) then I get the "Edit Field: Variables" Dialog there the date value is
incorrect. For example, the date format selected is '31 Dec 1999'. Today's date
of '17 Jan 2006'
appears in the value text area as '38734'.

I attached the screen shot of the problem, as requested.

Sorry for the delay.
Comment 10 eric.savary 2006-02-09 09:10:24 UTC
It depends on how the date has been defined when the variable has been set.
Th e variable is a number, so 38734 is ok and corresponds to Jan 17, 2006.
31 Dec 1999 is only a sample in the list, it is not intended to be the current date.
Consequently, 17 Jan 2006 is 38734 formatted with the 31 Dec 1999 date format.
-> no bug.

I would have felt that the value should be displayed in accordance with the
selected format? I do not see what use such a 5 digit number is to a user who
wants to specify or review the date.
Comment 13 peteredwards 2006-02-25 16:10:46 UTC
I wish to report this same problem, with an attached example.
There is no problem if the number format is one of the built-in date formats,
but if I change to 'DD/MM/YY;;#' (so indirections to empty cells appear
empty), the edit field shows a 5-digit number. Most annoying when I wish
merely to correct a date.

->peteredwards: your problem is a Calc problem. File an issue for the
Spreadsheet component.
