Description shivisi 2006-03-10 13:10:37 UTC
I've just updated to OOo 2.0.2 and I can't connect to an embedded HSQL database.
I can open the database document, but I can't move to the tables/views section;
and when I try to open a query or form, the following error comes up:

The connection to the data source "Otzar" could not be established.

The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC
driver was found for the given URL.

In addition, whenever I try to create a new (embedded) database, it shows dBase
as the default database engine.

Base document - dBase engine, not HSQL-DB

Do you have enabled "use a Java runtime environment" in
Tool-Options-OpenOffice.org-Java and do you have got a actual JRE?
Comment 3 Mechtilde 2006-03-10 16:22:52 UTC
@ shivisi
Can you attach the HSQLDB or the dBase-DB?

Nobody can reproduce it without the database.
Comment 4 shivisi 2006-03-11 21:03:21 UTC
regina:
Java is not enabled - this is apparently the problem.
However, when I check 'Use a Java runtime environment', and add the Java
environment, and then close the Options dialog box, the setting is not retained
- the checkbox is unchecked when I next open the dialog box.
I have the Sun JRE version 1.5.0_06. (Windows XP Professional SP2)
Before upgrading to 2.0.2, I was using 2.0.1.

mechtilde:
I cannot post the HSQL database because attachments are limited to 1MB and the
database is 5MB. However, I have posted the generated Base document.
I don't think the problem is with a particular database - see above.
Comment 5 Regina Henschel 2006-03-11 22:10:33 UTC
Sun JRE version 1.5.0_06 is OK.

Do you closed OOo and Quickstarter after setting JRE? Changes need a restart of OOo.

Please have a look into the directory user/config. There should be a file
"javasettings_Windows_x86.xml". You can open it in a browser. Are version and
location correct?

Is JRE correct installed in WinXP, so that everyone can use it?

Comment 6 shivisi 2006-03-13 13:07:31 UTC
I had installed JRE 5.0 U4, and then installed JRE 5.0 U6. I also had a class
path that was invalid. After uninstalling both JREs, and reinstalling JRE 5.0
U6, everything is fine.
I am enclosing the original javasettings_Windows_x86.xml file; this may help
identify the problem (if the problem was not in my Java installation).
Thanks for all the help.

Java settings causing error
Comment 8 shivisi 2006-03-13 13:18:10 UTC
Two points about the XML file:
1) The class path in the XML file was no longer valid when I upgraded to OOo 2.0.2
2) I had JRE 5.0 U4 and U6 installed, but for some reason only U4 is marked in
the XML file. The path to U4, however, was correct.

Opening and closing OOo had no effect, particularly since (as I noted) after
closing and opening the dialog box, the 'enable Java' checkbox was cleared once
again, and there were no JREs recognized in the dialog box.
Comment 9 Regina Henschel 2006-03-13 13:46:58 UTC
So the problem was, that OOo doesn't get the JRE correctly. I have chanced the
summary appropriate.
Please try to remember when using the dialog "Java options". Does OOo find the
JRE itself or do you click on the "Add"-Button to choose the path?

I guess, that the error occurs because your Java installation was broken some
way. But I havn't got a WinXP professional to test what there might have been
happened.

I'll set the issue to worksforme. Perhaps someone else can reproduce it.

thx regina for working out this issue - it is not repro for me, too on a xp, so
i agree with the assumption that the java installation was anyway corrupted and
close this issue

do not hestitate to reopen this issue if still occure reproducable in current
version

thx
