There has been some discussion around the pros and cons of both autosave and
autorecover (see http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=19390). Is it
possible to offer both so that persons can chose to use the option they want? Is
it possible to use both?

please see issue 60853 if it meets your needs; I can resolve this issue as 
duplicate then.
