Test Document, has two bulleted groups, each demonstrate the comment I left. Thanks, Scott none

Description bigdogweigand 2006-05-02 15:33:19 UTC
When selecting (highlighting) a group of bulleted items at various levels, could
the Tab key be programmed to move the group just like when you hit the tab key
on a single-bulleted item? Currently, when I do this, it erases the highlighted
group.

Thanks,
Scott

tab moves a bullet group to the right for me, doesn't it do this for you? If
not, can you attach a sample document with a bullet group where tab doesn't work
so (perhaps there is a misunderstanding regarding the term group)? thanks, Lars

Okay, this is really weird, but here's how it works (submitted the documented I
used). If I highlight from the last space of the last line UP to the first space
of the first line, it works fine. If I highlight from the first space of the
first line DOWN TO the last sapce of the last line, it clears whatever was
highlighted and indents a blank line where the first item was.

Thanks,
Scott

I just read that this works as designed. See section 7.1.1 of
http://specs.openoffice.org/writer/numbering/NumberingBullet1.sxw . If the caret
is placed directly after the first bullet (which is what you get when you
highlight up) tab works for the complete list, otherwise the selection is
replaced by the entered character (normal formatting behaviour). This makes
sense as you probably wouldn't want to indent the first list item while keeping
subsequent list items unindented. If you like lists to be recognized in
selections and tab then to carry out an indent action, I can confirm this issue
as an enhancement request.

MRU->FL: when the bullet labels in a second level of a list are selected (cursor
placed left of bullets) the bullets aren't moved to first level; only the first
one. This does not make sense IMO though the competitive analysis reveals that
it is industry standard.

Could the cursor just be disabled when highlighting a bulleted-list? Word I
believe does this and makes it easier to change the level of a bulleted-list group.

Thanks,
Scott
