Description uk_sharpless 2006-05-28 10:28:16 UTC
Seriously deficient in the word-forms,
this needs to *come out of the dark ages*, in two senses.
A. We do need to have it providing the proper word-forms equivalent to the
inital word, at long last: past tenses of weak AND strong verbs, -ing-forms and
plurals -- in the case of the English language!
B. It should respond to two-word queries (such as phrasal verbs, the common
compounds) WITHOUT need to highlight that! Yes: placing cursor between them
should be enough.
Surely, intelligence should have dicatated these two things long ago. I repeat
the story.
My little electronic typewriter made back in 1991 already had an excellent
Thesaurus, which included all these forms and that ease with two-word
queries...! That had been supplied by Houghton Mifflin (??spelling).
Ergo: You should approach THAT literary firm!

Reassigned to SBA.

reassigned to requirements

Part A is already addressed by issue #19563, part B should be visible in the
title. Adjusted the title; the idea is to search for two-word expression in the
thesaurus just in case the words are not highlighted; the cursor is not on any
word. The practical problem: if the cursor is between "come| back" in the
position I marked with "|" the user could want to search "come". The same goes
for "come |back" - the user might want to search for "back". The logical
solution would be to search for "come", "back", and "come back", and to put the
results of the query in the box.
nemeth->Is it feasible?

Milek: Absolutely. Moreover, I have submitted a tender to FSF.HU Foundation,
Hungary about OOo development, including Part A. Unfortunatelly, this project
has lower priority for this Hungarian foundation, because we need a Hungarian
thesaurus firstly.

nemeth -> should you need assistance in creating the thesaurus, you can look at
the openthesaurus.de for a working method.
Comment 6 milek_pl 2007-10-09 18:01:00 UTC
setting as new, confirmed and viable.
Comment 7 nemeth.lacko 2007-10-10 12:40:58 UTC
Milek: Thanks. It seems, we may have stemmer and affix generator for OOo
thesaurus component before Hungarian thesaurus, because I am working on the
stemmer and affix generator extension of Hunspell. I'd like to extend this
functionality in MyThes also for two-word queries like "came back", "coming back".

laci, great to hear that.

Comment 10 milek_pl 2007-10-11 18:14:37 UTC
note that if you have

word1| word2

the user is likely to see synonyms for word1 (see duplicated issue). So the
behavior must account for all three cases.
