In MS-Word, one can use codes like ^t, ^l, ^p to replace non-printing
characters with other printing or non-printing characters.

This is particularly useful when formatting emails (with many spurious line
feeds) or tabulated data from other formats.

The inability of OOo in this area (up to 2.0.1) is, for me, a critical
weakness with OOo, that is now moving me back towards the alternative software
package.

Is this a new feature or a defect in existing functionality? Probably a bit of
each.

Regular expression \x0009 works for tabs (despite being a little cumbersome).

However \x000D paragraph break, and \x000B line feed, don't work at all in
the "Search for" box. 000E column break and 000C page break would also be
useful.

I want to be able to replace paragraph breaks with a specific printing or non-
printing character, and vice versa. Same with line breaks.
