Description hcostelha 2006-08-29 19:17:55 UTC
When we export a drawing to PDF and select "Export selection" and entire page
is created even if there is only a small object. The expected behaviour should
be the same as in the other exports, that the page be the size of the exported
drawing selection.
Comment 1 wolframgarten 2006-08-30 08:02:46 UTC
Checkbox is greyed out. Reproducible, reassigned.
Comment 2 sven.jacobi 2006-08-30 09:24:06 UTC
sj->wg: you have to select something, otherwise "export selection" will be disabled.

sj->mmp: I think this feature would require a specification change, can you
please take care of this.
Comment 3 hcostelha 2006-08-30 11:05:41 UTC
Hi, just to let you know that reports #23138 and #25341 report the same issue.
Before reporting this one I searched but didn't' find those reports.
Nevertheless, both are still unsolved, so solving this one means that the
three bug reports can be closed.
Comment 4 wolframgarten 2006-08-30 11:39:29 UTC
wg @ sj: Even when I have selected something the checkbox is checked and greyed
out. In the direct pdf export dialog I select "selection" again and the result
is a complete page.
Comment 5 sven.jacobi 2006-08-30 13:25:04 UTC
sj->wg: yes, the "export selection" button in the export dialog is always
disabled and this is no bug, you have make your choice within the PDF dialog,
there the selection button works as desired. But this issue is not about buttons
that are greyed out, it is about the fact that a whole page is exported even if
the outline of the selection is smaller than the page.
Comment 6 wolframgarten 2006-08-30 13:43:31 UTC
"..there the selection button works as desired..": No, it does not.
And that is what I said in my last post.
Comment 7 sven.jacobi 2006-08-30 15:08:43 UTC
sj->wg: I installed the latest Office version and when chosing "selection" as
range then only the selected objects are exported. And as I understand the
submitter of this issue he is having prolems with the page size of the created
pdf document and nothing more.

You said "Checkbox is greyed out. Reproducible" in your first statement, this is
having only a little relation to the initial problem. By the way I will leave it
to mmp to arrive at conclusions from our discussion.
Comment 8 hcostelha 2006-08-30 15:19:28 UTC
Yes, only the selected objects are exported, however, the size of the exported
page does not reflect the size of the selected objects, contrary to what
happends when exporting to other types of files.

Hi, I agree, that this is a disturbing error.

I would like to have a PDF-file with the size of the selection, as the function does when using a EPS-
output. So I always have to export in EPS and then use EPS2PDF to get the required result.

The PDF-Funktion always exports to a whole page.

Hi,

It would be very nice, if this longstanding defect could be fixed, see
bug 23138, bug 25341, bug 69073, bug 84802, bug 88313, etc.

Currently, one has to post-process openoffice drawings for use with pdflatex.
Apart from being cumbersome, both post-processing routes I know of have their
problems:
- pdfcrop sometimes fails.
- I am not sure whether the eps - epstopdf - pdf route conserves quality.

The defect should be fixed for OOo draw _and_ OOo impress, since the very
useful extension OOoLatex is only available for OOo impress.

Regards, Stephan
