Description hwtan 2006-10-05 02:59:02 UTC
This is the current scene: Edit a template, without typing anything into the
document, go straight to File-Printer Settings-Properties, do some changes
there. Click Ok all the way and go back to the document. The save icon is still
disabled, so is File-save. If the editing template is closed at this point, the
changes in the printer properties are not saved with the template. To save the
printer properties one has to enter a character and delete it for the save
function to be enabled. Save the editing template now and the changes in the
printer properties is now saved with the template.

The save function should be enabled if changes is made to the printer properties.

Reassigned to HI. Pls evaluate wether this is a bug or an RFE.

To clarify, you do not change the printer, only the settings from current
printer like you could adjust at the system. Please confirm.

The properties dialog of the printer are taken from the system und doesn't
belong to OOo. Therefore save button keeps disabled.

But in my experience, OOo does carry along the Printer properties with its
documents, as long as the properties are accessed or changed from
OOo-File-Printer Settings-Properties.

I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" and HP
officejet 6110 (Driver "HP_WebRelease") and and can confirm the problem.

This is not a special WRITER or tempate problem.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open any existing WRITER document
2. Menu "File - Printer Settings"
3. Select 'Properties', change Paper format and output from 'colour'
   to 'grey scale'
   confirm all changes with <OK>
expected: 'Save button' and 'undo button' should appear
actual: 'Save button' and 'undo button' do not appear, and you
            can close document without saving

When I save the documet after step 3 under a new name, close and reopen it, the
printer settings will be changed as expected.

I have a very similar situation, except that

(a) I am running non-product build of DEV300_m88.

(b) I am running on Linux.

(c) The program sets the "changed flag" (i.e., enables Save icon in
the toolbar and menu option File > Save) the *first* time in the
life of a document that you change a setting through File >
Printer Settings > Properties > Paper. Note that "life of the
document" here spans the process of closing and opening the
    document.

It seems very strange to me that the program should behave differently
the first time the user changes the printer settings, and Niklas Nebel
suggests
<http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=28004> that
the difference "sounds like an unintended side effect of creating the
SfxPrinter on demand". I suggest that this issue should be assigned
type DEFECT.

My feeling is that the correct behaviour is to always set the "changed
flag" when the user changes the Printer Settings, but I have not yet
found any specification saying so.
