Description sorrodp 2002-08-19 12:24:45 UTC
I am trying to import a table of data from a text file. The data is organized
in columns, separated by spaces. There are several rows (a small number of them).

In the Spreadsheet application, I tried the menu item "External Data" from
the "Insert" menu. I choose the text file using the file browser, and click
"Insert".

Then a new window comes up, titled "Text Import - [file.txt]".
I choose the "Space" as the column separator. The preview pane shows
the data from my file correctly separated into columns. Then I click "OK".

At this point the "Text Import" window goes away, and the "External Data" window
stays there, with the "OK" button still greyed out. The only option is to press
"Cancel" or "Help". I choose "Cancel", and this window closes. However, the
data is never imported into my spreadsheet.

This is a duplicate of 1834, which I just found in the issue list.

On the issue of 1834, I recommend some UI changes to make it clear
that you cannot import a formatted text file into the spreadsheet
doing it through "external data". It seemed logical to me as a user,
and that is why I tried to do it this way.
