Issue 71310

Summary: in-cell formatting lost on RTF copy/paste to Writer
Product: Calc Reporter: drking <openoffice>
Component: uiAssignee: AOO issues mailing list <issues>
Status: ACCEPTED --- QA Contact:
Severity: Trivial
Priority: P3 CC: issues
Version: OOo 2.0.4
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: All
OS: All
Issue Type: FEATURE Latest Confirmation in: ---
Developer Difficulty: ---

Description drking 2006-11-07 19:08:23 UTC
If a cell contains "hello there" with the 'hello' bold and the 'there' italic,
copying that cell together with a blank cell below it to the clipboard and then
doing Edit->Paste Special->RTF in Writer pastes it as plain text in a table - ie
the formatting is lost.

I think this is a bug rather than an enhancement request, because
1. if "hello there" is *all* bold or whatever it pastes fine
2. if you just copy/paste a single cell it works fine (ie no table)
3. if the cells are copied from Excel rather than Calc it works fine :(

This matter was discussed on the Calc user forum Oct/Nov 2006 under the heading
"rich text formatting" and confirmed there by other users

Apologies - this should have been under Spreadsheet, not Chart - it must have
changed without me noticing.

This is an outstanding bug with calc integration into the rest of the OOo
suite. MSO is better in this respect which should be a challange to OOo
programmers. We all want OOo to outdo MSO.

Maybe. That RTF clipboard filter was never meant to be a complete export filter.
We don't export any individual in-cell formatting to RTF, only some basic
attributes applied to the entire cell. As implementing this would be quite some
effort I change this issue to type 'feature'.

It may be hard, be MSO has outdone you in this. It's in the world's best
interesrs to overcome such problems.

For info:
The worthy Villeroy at the Calc user forum has written a macro as a workaround.
It is at:
