OO 2.0.4 on Windows XP 

While it is possible to insert a movie into an OO 2.0.4 ODT document using the
following steps:

menu items "insert / movie and sound"
select a mpeg movie
click OK

It is not possible to embed the same movie into an ODT document using drag and
drop. Output is shown in attached image. 

Judging from bug 62726 this must have worked at some moment in time, but I did
not verify this on an earlier version myself.

Files with suffix .mpg will be recognized correctly by all OOo applications when
dragging it from Windows Explorer in the document. But as long as the file is
named *.mpeg, OO Writer and Calc won't recognize this as a known filetype, while
in OO Draw thi works fine.
