Soft hyphens are considered as fields in term of page rendering. Show/hide state
can be triggered by Ctrl+F8. It is more logical to count them as non-printable
characters, so its visibility will be triggered by Ctrl+F10.

Reassigned to SBA.

Confirmed. The soft hyphens are shown/displayd along with their "field shade".

I note that they are not formatted themselves in terms of "take screen space for
themselves", but squeezed behind the text that shall keep its formatting
untouched. They are displayed and printed themselves only if they are taken as
line break option at the end of a line.

A better (yet easier) example are the nonbreaking spaces. The "field shade" is
toggled with Ctrl+F8 while the "characterdisplay" is toggled with Ctrl+F10. But
the space itself always has "room for itself" on the screen.

I will attach a small Writer document to better show the behavior.
Note that there are more formatting characters...

Reassigned to requirements.

Agree with others. Non-breaking space, non-breaking hyphen and optional hyphen
logically are non-printable characters.

Addon by subject:

At this time i can`t to set background color of spaces, tabs and end_paragraph
non-printable characters.

And it`s very sad for me and my red eyes :(

And i am not along with my problem. It`s result of discussion in russian OOo
forum: http://community.i-rs.ru/index.php/topic,14423.msg98985.html

RESUME:
1) We need a separate color option for "non-printable characters shading". It
will solve the problem of marking all non-printable characters and special
symbols, like non-breaking space, non-breaking hyphen and optional hyphen.
2) We need to group non-breaking space, non-breaking hyphen and optional hyphen
with non-printable characters. It`s much intuitive and comfortable to show|hide
this elements.
