Description crxssi 2007-03-07 23:25:26 UTC
OpenOffice writer has a feature, like most word processors, called "Convert
Case", which can be used to convert a document to all uppercase or all lowercase
letters. However, it is lacking a very important option, which is available in
many word processors (including WordPerfect) called "Initial Caps".

Initial Caps will first go through the document and convert everything to
lowercase. Then it semi-intelligently goes through the docuement and changes
the first character of each sentence to uppercase. Finally, it tries to
identify common acronyms (like Mr., Mrs., HTML, E-Mail, etc) and make sure those
are also either initial caps or all caps.

I am surprised Writer still doesn't have this feature. The first part (just the
beginning of each sentence) should be very easy to program, and could be
released prior to adding the additional code for acronyms. Anyway, I need this
feature all the time when converting documents.

Duplicate of Issue 1601. 'crxssi', please make sure you search IssueZilla before
raising issues. Cheers.

'crxssi', I just noticed that you already posted on Issue 1601. You clearly knew
that you were raising a duplicate Issue. This is not acceptable- wasting my time
as a volunteer, but more importantly the time of developers- that could be
better spent fixing issues. In future please interact with this project in a
more thoughtful manner.

Oh- terribly sorry... I completely forgot I had already found and commented on
an existing issue. Sometimes my memory is not what it used to be. I have no
idea why it didn't come up when I searched before posting.

But I do greatly resent your tone. Perhaps before judging what happened and
verbally lashing me, you could

1) Realize that it could have been an honest mistake (which it was)
2) Realize that *I AM ALSO* a volunteer, trying to help make OpenOffice better,
just like you.

Thank you for volunteering your time.

'crxssi', although IssueTracker is clearly not the best place for personal
discussion, I feel it is important that I apologies for my previous comments. I
made an unfair and incorrect judgment and was excessively critical. Re-reading
my post, it clear that it is myself that needs to interact in a more thoughtful
manner in future. Again, I'm sincerely sorry.

I often forget what Issues I've already posted on, but find adding a vote or
CC'ing myself onto the Issue a fairly convenient way to keep track of it.

Regards,
Andrew
