Description rpolach 2007-04-10 20:51:44 UTC
In Czech language official writing rules say that line break
is prohibited between one-letter word "k", "s", "v" or "z" and
a following word. Typographic convention also instruct this rule after
words "o", "u", "a" or "i".
MS Word respect this partially: it autocorrect space to non-breaking
space always after "k", "s", "v" or "z".
OOo Writer should do the same, at least, or in addition autocorrect space
after "o", "u", "a" or "i" too, because basic typography should be respected
in word processor product IMHO.

Reassigned to SBA.
Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2007-07-03 11:31:41 UTC
Definitively not a special WRITER problem
Comment 3 stefan.baltzer 2009-06-14 10:48:40 UTC
Confirming. Set type to enhancement.

Note: For French, the protected space between text and surrounding quotes is
automatically inserted.

This shouldn't get a Writer specific hackish non-breaking space AutoCorrection
solution, but be implemented in the linebreakiterator instead so all modules can
benefit.

@tl: please take over.

Thanks

SBA->TL: As discussed, set target 3.x as a starter.

What about similar needs/rules of other languages? I think it makes sense to
collect some information to decide "CZ only" vs. "all at once" within this issue.

The outcome/effort may influence the target or the scope: Maybe "CZ only" can be
done for 3.2? Maybe all?

Some rules are defined here (in czech):
