Description clytie 2007-08-17 13:53:29 UTC
As I went through all the dialogues for OpenOffice.org 2.3, I noticed that there are quite a few pieces of
text which still appear in the dialogues as untranslated, even if you have translated the entire interface
in the GSI file.

To help internationalize these pieces of text, we need to identify them, and create a wiki page listing
them, their locations and appropriate translation procedure.

That way, we will achieve a uniformly translated interface, which appears much more professional, and
is considerably less confusing for the international user.

Untranslated text:

1. Please see attached screenshot calc_64051

The XML filter dialogue lists untranslated filetypes ("Calc File", "Writer File" etc.).

2. calc_1493893120

Insert Table: the table field types ("Formatted text", "Number and cell formats" etc.) are not translated.

3. draw_10475, (also 27372 and 703725568, which I can upload at request)

The unit "Pixel" is not translated in these dialogues, despite being translated in various places in the GSI
file, and appearing translated in other dialogues.

4. html_20620

Autotext dialogue: untranslated item names.

5. master_53239

The names and contents of the headings, table and image are not translated.

6. writer_33357

None of these items are translated. They look like a Help listing. (?)

7. writer_34320

Layout names not translated.

It is difficult to distinguish between text that has not been included in the GSI file, and text which is not
shown translated due to an error. Please also see bugs 80781 and 80782, which I think are errors, not
simply exterior strings. But perhaps one or more of the items listed above are also errors. We need to
distinguish error from exterior strings, fix the errors and organize the exterior strings.

Easier said than done, but it is a worth-while effort. Where do we start?

one issue per issue please...

I won't work on ten issues in one issue.

Note: not all translatable elements in GSI / PO files. Some localization worg
have to do on templates or other files:
/opt/openoffice.org2.2/share/autocorr
/opt/openoffice.org2.2/share/autotext
/opt/openoffice.org2.2/share/template/wizard/letter
/opt/openoffice.org2.2/share/template/(yourlocale)/internal

AFAIR there is a document where it is described more detailed...
