Description rpolach 2007-09-07 12:58:43 UTC
In attached document OOo Writer (both 2.2.1 and current 2.3rc version) inserts
blank page betwen
pages 10 (that partially filed with text "PAGE TEN...") and 11
(that partially filed with text "PAGE ELEVEN...") so that original page 11
became 12.
MS Word inserts no blank page there and displays page with text "PAGE ELEVEN..."
just after
the page with text "PAGE TEN..."

MRU->FME: see attached document - page 11 is left completely empty. When
entering a paragraph break in the end of page 10, the content will correctly
flow back from page 12 to 11.

I am having a similar case, likely related.

In my case the text flow changes if I save an 150 page book as ODT and load it again later. The document has lots of images anchored to pages. The text is supposed to flow around them. There are a few manual page breaks in front of two or three headings, otherwise there's a continuous text flow.

If I load the document and it shows the last page I've been working on I can often tell the text is not the one supposed to be on that page. I got a document with several small "gaps" on places where there are NO hard page breaks or similar. My impression is that OOo, in this case, starts recalculating the text flow and fails on some positions (thus breaking the layout on following pages as well.)

It were OK if OOo needed some time after loading the document and would show a progress indicator or anything to tell the user it is computing the layout. However it does not fix the problem itself, no matter how long I wait.

Sometimes it seems just enough to scroll to that page and OOo will re-adjust the text flow, sometimes it needs a trigger to correct itself, as in the test document attached by rpolach.

Just now I have following reproducable effect:
- Read-only document opens on page 156/157 (I have book layout.) showing wrong text. Nothing happens.
- I scroll up to page 154/155. As soon as these pages come into view, the text flow on page 156/157 changes.
- As soon as I scroll up to page 152/153 the text flow on all subsequent pages changes again. So obviously just viewing a page can trigger an adjustment.

Tested on OOo3.3.0 on WinXP SP3
Sorry but my 140MB document is a bit too large to attach here ...

P.S. I suggest to raise this bug to from "trivial" to "minor". This is imho not just a cosmetic issue. Locating the erroneous pages is very time consuming.

P.P.S. I am aware that using a master document would likely help in my case, but its a bug nonetheless.

3/4 of page temporarily left empty, but no hard page break

Attachment is just an example that it might as well just be part of a page left empty. Note that the heading on the subsequent page does not have a hard page break, and if triggered, moves onto the previous page.

Writing up a presentation for upcoming Lecture

Today, when I opened my document, the typed content was half showing and half hidden. Also the format of the page was weird. I tried to correct the format but nothing changes. When I switched to Wordpad (a microsoft program) all my information came up fine. I'd rather save my text documents in the Open Office format. What happened? This is very troubling. How do I get an answer to my question. How can I get a normal document to come up?
