To reproduce : 

Start with a new workbook with following values :
A1 => 1
A2 => 2
A3 => 3
B2 => 4

Save - select A1:B3 - Copy

Open a new workbook, Special Paste - [X] link

The values are displayed correctly.
Save - Close - Open this new workbook.
At popup windows to REFRESH => say NO

B1 = 2,49E+129 (Woow !:-) )
B3 = 4

If you answer OK to REFRESH popup, all is ok ;-)

one for you I think. If possible set target to 2.4.
