Description bjorn_padding 2007-10-11 11:46:45 UTC
Hi,

OpenOffice Writer hangs on the end of an ODT file that has been generated by
OpenOffice Writer itself.

Ingredients:
1 OpenOffice ODT file that is used as template (made in Writer).
2 A big (4 MB) HTML file that needs to be inserted into the template.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the template.
2. Open the HTML file.
3. Select and copy all the content.
3. Paste in the copied html into the template.
4. Wait for a couple of seconds till minutes until processing is done.

/* following to be as sure as we can that document is fine */
5. Save the file as an odt.
6. Close the file.
7. Reopen the odt.

/* or 8.1 or 8.2 to provoke the hang */
8.1. Scroll to the end of the document (Ctrl+End)
8.2. Save the document as a Word 97/2000/XP doc file.

This only happens with large content imported from html.
Small content works without any problems.

If you need the files in question then please send me an email.

Kind regards,
Bjorn Padding

Could you please check, if you still experience this problem with the newest
(unstable) developer snapshot build SRC680_m231?
If so, please attach a sample document to this issue (or send directly to
mru@openoffice.org).

Sorry, I forgot to mention this. Yes I have tried that but unfortunately it
didn't work.

Normally these document are created automatically from a Java app by using the
API by running
soffice.exe with ' -invisible -nocrashreport -norestore
-accept="socket,host=localhost,port=8100;urp" '.

However, when I do it manually, it hangs too.

MRU->OD: the document will loop at about 90% of the formatting process. Can be
seen best when triggering this manually by Tools.Update.Page formatting.

Hi mru and od,

I have found another problem, but I believe it to be related with the very big
document I sent you before.
I have sent mru and od an archive with a couple of test file (not included
here as they should not be published public).

What happens is that OpenOffice start looping into infinity generating empty
pages when the html content is pasted or insterted into the template odt file
both included in the archive.
It seems to have to do something with print area of the page.

If I increase the page print area the problem does not occur.
My feeling is that it has to do with the image not fitting on the page.
However, resizing the image does not change anything.

retarget to OOo 3.0 due to limited resources
