BugDoc for missing feature in numbering none

Description ematt 2007-10-15 10:14:40 UTC
Wanting to apply numbering I had to experience that you can't sub-number like in
the writer. When wanting to push one number to the right by tab or the arrow for
decreasing the level of the number this just doesn't work (the arrow is disabled
and tab removes the numbering). In the numbering options, there is no function
provided for sub-numbering like in the writer.
This should be corrected because this feature is just as important in Impress
like in the Writer.

Please attach a bugdoc.
I can see that the arrow is disabled but I can't see that Tab deletes the numbering.
Comment 2 ematt 2007-10-15 17:02:31 UTC
What's a bugdoc?
Comment 3 christian.guenther 2007-10-15 18:19:35 UTC
A bugdoc is a document where I can reproduce the wrong behavior.
You can also write a step by step description what I've to do and what behavior
is wrong.

BugDoc for missing feature in numbering
Comment 5 ematt 2007-10-15 19:14:02 UTC
Okay, just try to create a listing like the following somerwhere in the BugDoc:
1. Test One
2. test two
    2.1 test two point one
    2.2 test two point two
3. test three

Somehow, pressing tab doesn't remove the listing in my BugDoc any more but it
doesn't create a sub-point, either.

You use graphic objects for the text. Such objects cannot have an outline,
neither here nor in draw or writer. If you want an outline numbering, then use
the presentation object. Assign the layout "title, text" or "title, 2 text
blocks" to the slide.
Comment 7 christian.guenther 2007-10-16 09:17:39 UTC
This is an enhancement.
Comment 8 ematt 2007-10-16 18:57:19 UTC
Ok, I changed to title, text and the arrow is visible, now but it doesn't solve
the porblem - the arrow doesn't create a sub-number, neither can I create one in
the menu. It just moves it to the right.
Comment 9 ematt 2007-10-29 11:51:35 UTC
There's a similar problem in the Writer:
You can't create sub-points that have different symbols than superior points.
Or does anybody know how?
Comment 10 Regina Henschel 2007-10-29 12:05:50 UTC
Please ask in a forum or on a mailing list, how to get list numbering in writer.
It is not the same problem as in presentaion or draw.

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please provide feedback as requested and re-test with the the latest version of OpenOffice - the problem(s) may already be addressed.

You can download Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 from http://www.openoffice.org/download

Please report back the outcome of your testing, so this Issue may be closed or
progressed as necessary - otherwise the issue may be Resolved as Invalid in the
future.

I have tested this bug on Open Office Tool version 3.4.1.

The description actually presents 2 issues which are sub-numbering and changing the indentation level. I was able to change the indentation level without any problem but was able to replicate the issue of sub-numbering.

How to Reproduce the reported bug?

I am able to reproduce the sub-numbering issue by following the next test steps:

1.Highlight the required list to be numbered for Level-1

2.Navigate to Format > Bullets & Numbering tab and select numbering type and level

3.Highlight the required list to be numbered for Level-2

4.Navigate to Format > Bullets & Numbering tab and select numbering type and level

5.Go to Customize tab

6.There is no option to inherit the higher level numbering. There is the option to enter a static text in 'before' field which will not be dynamic to adapt to the higher numbering level.

Follow-Up tests that should have been done?

I don't see a need for further testing as the issue is clear. The question remains: is this feature important for the user?
