Framework issue. reassigned issue to requirements Peter, please take over. I never understand why such understandable and easy implementable RFEs are put into the dark oblivion called "requirements". pb: set to 3.x because 3.0 is ui-freeze. Mikhail, please take over. We should discuss which option we would like to implement. Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org". (In reply to aboba from comment #0) > o Create a Writer document. > o select File|Save > o enter a file name > o check 'Save with password' > o click OK > ...at this point user is prompted to enter a password, twice. Nowhere in the > dialog box does it indicate the password must be five characters or more. ( First the version 2.3.0 ) Indeed. However, pressing the Help button (or the F1 key) opens the Password topic with this entry: "Password Type a password that is at least five characters long. A password is case sensitive". On the other hand, the Help topic available when opening a password-protected file is hardly relevant ("Help for OpenOffice.org Writer"). Now the version 4.1.13 There is no Help button in the "Set Password" dialog (see Issue 122151 - Missing Help for "Set Password" dialog). Pressing F1 leads to the topic "Welcome to the OpenOffice Writer Help". The minimum password length is 1 character. The Help topic available when opening a password-protected file, called "Password", provides rules to follow. > Requested change: > Modify dialog box to include label indicating minimum password length. In order to maintain the consistency of the package (incl. components), such information would need to be present in all dialogues related to the password... > Preferred change: > Modify dialog box as above AND allow passwords as short as one character with > global setting so user may specify minimum password length. The minimum password length of one character makes the "Requested change" redundant. In this context, I do not see much point in making the "Preferred change" (global setting), given the time and resources available. Created attachment 87147 [details]
