Description marek_matulka 2008-03-19 16:29:15 UTC
On daily basis I need to write documents in two different languages, so using
OpenOffice is currently... a real pain.

Can we have simple language switcher for all document? or multiple sets of settings?

my current solution is to log off, change locale and login back. It does help,
but is not intuitive and time consuming. Would be great to have an easy way to
switch languages.

Thanks.

Calc example:

default settings for my gnome session are: English (UK)

I create a new spreadsheet, select all cells, right click and select "Format
cells..." on the very first tab I select Language: Polish.

now I type polish word into the cell... and it's underlined, because spell
checker surprisingly assumes, it's written in English (UK). Very intuitive.

I think, the best would be solution similar to "Set language" from Abiword:

simple list with languages to choose from and checkbox "make this language
default for this document". Or something similar.

Thanks,
Marek

Tools - Language - For Selection - More... should bring list of languages to select from and not Character dialog window.

'More...' could also be changed into a sub menu containing all languages.

BTW, the menus of Tools - Language are also available in the status bar.

This would save the user another dialog which need to be closed.

Good idea! Less is more...
