Description proxya 2008-05-14 11:48:38 UTC
At first I thought it is not possible to edit the a destination of a hyperlink.
I needed that because Impress did not refresh an internal hyperlink after
inserting another slide. but that's another point.

At first I used the workaround of deleting the old hyperlink and creating a new
one pointing to the shifted slide.
By chance I figured out that I can edit a hyperlink by marking it and click
"insert"-menu and there "add hyperlink"
As I am using the german version the menu item may have another names, but the
translation is correct.

It would be way easier and more intuitive if there was a seperate menu item
called "edit hyperlink" or even a "right-click entry" for editing the link.
Right clicking the hyperlink only offers the option "open hyperlink"

Background:

Hello, I am a test manager by profession and a user of presentation software. In
evaluating OO Impress as a viable alternative, I do attach a lot of importance
to the 'hyperlink' capability. And I stopped by to study this bug report and
hopefully add comments that would help the development team.

My tests were done on Impress software, OO 3.0 Beta on a Windows XP Professional
(english version) O/S running on a HP laptop.

Executive Summary of the observations:

1) The problem reported above is reproducible and it does come across as
unintuitive.

2) The bug summary specifies that it is unintuitive to edit hyperlinks with
target within a document but it appears that the problem is generic to editing
hyperlinks. For e.g. I found the problem even when the target was a web URL.

3) The hyperlink capability built into Impress appears to have limitations. A
key limitation noticed is that the hyperlink capability is not available in
'live presentation' mode and is available in only the editable mode.

4) A benchmark testing with MS PowerPoint shows that the same capability is
PowerPoint is more advanced in implementation - more intuitive, more robust and
works in 'live presentation' mode. Whenever an effort to spec this capability
for Impress needs to be done, a comparative study with MS PowerPoint could be
quite useful.

5) Message to bug reporter: On the first observation about "...I needed that
because Impress did not refresh an internal hyperlink after inserting another
slide...", my follow up tests couldn't reproduce the problem. It may be useful
if you could provide a set of reproducible steps and possibly raise it as a
separate bug.

There are a few supporting details and observations. It is too verbose to be
inside the text area, so I am attaching a text file containing the details
(89455_Supporting_Notes.txt).

Behavior has not changed with AOO 4.0.1, and it is still unintuitive.
