Description macias 2008-06-27 11:40:03 UTC
Just try
w'

' is so far away from w that it looks like two symbols instead of one (I sense
of meaning).

Known problem.
You can set a lower spacing in format.Spacing dialog.

Closing duplicate.

This is not a duplicate. Consider formulas

y = x^3
y' = 3x^2

since there is not good attribute (I mean symbol) in Math, I use apostrophe
for that. And since apostrophe is unlikely used for any other purpose it
(lowering spacing) should be done automatically.

But note it has nothing to do with subscript, superscript.

You are right, it is not a duplicate. But the spacing has a default value and
changing it to 0 % in the mentioned dialog will make this look better,

Mru, reopening then.

My wish is, to change the spacing automatically. When you have hundreds of
math equations to write it is very tiresome to tweak it each time.
Comment 6 michael.ruess 2008-07-02 14:45:04 UTC
You needn't tweak it every time. In the spacings dialog, you have a button
"Default". Using this, your new settings will be default for every new formula.
Currently the default spacing is referred to EVERY character in a formula. Does
anybody think it might be useful for apostrophes to make an exception?
Comment 7 macias 2008-07-02 16:02:23 UTC
a) sorry, missed default, in KDE it means "load defaults" not "save"

b) now I took closer look -- and the spacing unfortunately is for categories,
not for selected text, and only this would make sense (as workaround)
